Room-by-Room Reset: My Realistic Spring Cleaning/Declutter Plan

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be some big Olympic sized event that your family takes cover when the time comes. I’m not about that nor do I have the capacity for that. Been there, failed that. Saving for my kids' therapy.

What I have for you today is something that I hope feels do-able to all my friends out there who aspire to Spring clean without giving cause for divorce.

Here’s my very official, extremely professional reset plan:

Step 1: Decide which rooms are actually “priority rooms”

Not which rooms look messy.

Which ones impact my peace.

Step 2: Name one goal per room

  • Kitchen: reduce counter chaos

  • Living room: reclaim surfaces

  • Bedroom: make it feel like a sanctuary, not a storage unit

  • Kids’ rooms: survive

  • Office: create breathing space

Step 3: Set a timer

Twenty minutes per room. That’s it.

If it doesn't get done in those twenty minutes, choose whether or not you add another 20 minutes, add another day, or just be ok with what you got done during that time. Your season, your rules.

Step 4: Celebrate small wins

A cleared nightstand is a victory.

A drawer that opens without shoving is a triumph.

We're not aiming for perfection here!
